Sandi became involved in Search and Rescue in 1997 after daughter Lorrie joined KSARDA with her dog Sheena. Sandi started out as a flanker/tracker and then certified as Sheena's secondary handler in wilderness. Sandi is CPR/First Aid certified. She has participated as Sheena's handler in the Hoisington, Joplin/Granby, Emporia, Peabody, and Cheney Lake searches and as a flanker/tracker in 2 others, and as R.C.'s handler in the Emporia Flood search. She was the Deputy Director of the Southern Region from 2002-2005 and assists in the training of the K9 teams and flankers, orientation of the new members, organizing PR events, setting up the classroom instructional sessions, and helping with various administrative duties of the Southern Region. She is Sheena's handler for Water Searches. Sandi has her Ham Radio Technician No-Code license, is SARTECH ll certified, is a National SAR Tech Evaluator, and is a trained Weather Spotter. She has participated in 2 SAR seminars in Wichita held by Kevin George. She is a member of the Wichita Dog Training Club and the Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS). She obtained her K9 First Aid Certification and CERT Certification in 2004. She is looking forward to participating in future CERT activities with all of the other KSARDA CERT team members.

R.C. is a long-haired black and tan German Shepherd. She started training in search and rescue when she was 8 weeks old. R.C. just became certified in wilderness search in 2002 and participated in her first search in Emporia for flood victims in Aug/Sept 2003. She is a devoted, lovable pet who always has a "smile" on her face! R.C. obtained her Canine Good Citizen Certification in October of 2003. R.C. is pre-certification in water search and will be testing soon for her Basic Water Search certification.

Sheena was retired in October 2005 due to health complications. She crossed the Rainbow Bridge in March 2006.

Sheena was a long-haired sable German Shepherd. She not only certified with Lorrie in wilderness, she certified with Sandi as well. Between Lorrie and Sandi's testing, Sheena successfully completed 380 acres of wilderness evaluations. Sheena worked under both Lorrie or Sandi. She's the search dog that Lorrie and Sandi always dreamed of owning!
Sandi certified with Sheena in Basic Water Search in August 2003 and went on her first water search on Aug. 31, 2003 for 2 missing motorists that were swept off of the Kansas Turnpike in a flood. Sheena located scent during that search and did a fantastic job! She participated in 9 searches in her SAR career. We love you Sheena! Thank you for all of the years you gave us and SAR!
