Wichita Community Foundation Grant

Thanks to the hard work of the KSARDA Grants Committee our team was awarded a grant for $9,965.00 by the Wichita Community Foundatation on April 28, 2004. This grant allowed our group to purchase twenty handheld radios and 3 mobile radios along with additional radio equipment. These radios operate on the national SAR frequency and will allow our group better communication during training exercises and in actual searches amongst team members, other agencies, and Incident Command. We extend our sincerest thanks both to the Wichita Community Foundation for awarding this grant to our team!

K9 Sheena (handled by Lorrie and Sandi Stelz) and K9 Timber (handled by Jake Ring) passed away in early 2006. They were cherished members of the team and will be dearly missed. Look for our Memorial Page honoring Thunder, Bullet, Sheena, and Timber to come in the near future.

Spring 2006: Wilderness Trainees Ronda Jantz & K9 Hattie, Brad Jantz & K9 Mojo, Jennifer Thill & K9 Jack, and Jason Betts & K9 Tucker passed their 20-acre evaluations. Congratulations !!!!

August 24, 2005: KSARDA was honored by KFDI's Morning Show Host Dan Tooker with a LimoLunch at Wichita's Red, Hot & Blue restaurant. Team members Sandi, Lorrie, Vicki, Sherryl, Inga, Judi, Dale, and Phil travelled in style to meet Dan at the restaurant. Dan is a dog lover and was extremely interested in KSARDA and the work of its volunteers.

Spring and Summer 2005: KSARDA has had a busy spring and summer with PR events. KSARDA enjoyed having a booth and numerous members and their K9s present. Lost But Found Safe and Sound programs were presented to students at Rex Elementary (Haysville), Dodge Elementary (Wichita), All Saints Elementary (Wichita), and Clark Davidson Elementary (Goddard). KSARDA participated in the Cowley County Emergency Management Safety Days and the Maize National Night Out event. In addition, KSARDA made a presentation to clients and staff at Goodwill Industries. Thanks to the following K9 Teams and Members who participated in these various events: Sandi & K9 Skye, Lorrie & K9 Skye, Stacy & K9s Zoey and Gabe, Sherryl & K9 Ruby, Inga & K9 Tracer, Vicki & K9 Solo, Terresia & K9 Sydney, Cheryl & K9 Grace, and Heather & K9 Clover, and Footsearchers Phil, Glenn, and Judi.

February 2005: KSARDA was recognized both by Davis-Moore and KAKE TV Channel 10 for our volunteer work in Search and Rescue. KAKE featured KSARDA in the story "Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things", and Davis-Moore and Dawson Grimsley presented KSARDA with a plaque, along with a donation. We would like to thank Davis-Moore and KAKE for recognizing our team. We are honored by your generosity!

January 2005: Three KSARDA teams obtained their AKC Canine Good Citizen Certification. Congratulations to the new CGC teams: Vicki Walton & Solo; Linda Yoos & Squirt; and Rhonda Jantz & Hattie. This brings KSARDAs Southern Region CGC K9s to a total of 9. They join the other KSARDA K9s who obtained their CGC in recent years: R.C., Sheena, Skye, Ruby, Zoey, and Bailey.

KSARDA's seven qualified K9 teams began actively training in water search this past fall, with one of those teams working on advanced water certification. Watch for more photos to be added from our water search training.
