Heather joined KSARDA in the summer of 2007 and passed all her requirements for foot searcher in December 2007. In March 2011, she became KSARDA's Director, following her prior service on the Board as Secretary. Heather is also a member of the Kansas State Task Force, KC Metro USAR, and FEMA's Missouri Task Force One. She enjoys learning all aspects of K9 SAR and helping others learn the SAR trade however she can. She has attended the NASAR conference in 2009, as well as numerous seminars and travel trainings throughout the midwest.

Heather currently works full-time as a Firefighter/Paramedic for South Metro FD in Raymore, MO. She also does part-time work as a medic for special events and concerts in the Kansas City area. As such, she holds certifications in ACLS; PALS; BLS; CCEMTP; NRP; HazMat Operations; Firefighter 1 & 2; NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, 800; Confined Space, Trench Rescue, Ice Rescue, and Vehicle Extrication. Heather will be participating in many more rescue classes as part of her FEMA task force education in 2012.

Trailing III, Disaster Responder IV, & HRD Land IIISheila is a German Shepherd born in December 2006. A year later, she and Heather joined KSARDA. After a lot of hard work, their goal of becoming an operational K9 team was met in 2008! Sheila has been on numerous deployments including the 2008 Chapman Tornado strike (her very first Callout!) and the 2011 Oklahoma Tornado strike. In February 2011, Sheila and KSARDA K9 Copper were credited with finding a missing despondent individual alive in Olathe, KS. When not wearing her SAR vest, Sheila stays busy keeping her younger 'brother' in line (a full-time job in itself at times!), playing frisbee, swimming, and traveling to all sorts of places with Heather.

NASAR K9 SARTECH Area Search I & Disaster ResponderBrock is a Dutch Shepherd born in April 2009. Heather decided that life was not busy enough and wanted a little more 'challenge'! She obtained Brock through a well-respected trainer at 16 weeks choosing Brock while watching him and his litter mates prepare for life as working dogs. Brock is a very high-drive dog who makes life around the house a little nuts at times, but more than makes up for it with his sweet personality and endless drive on the disaster pile. As of June 2010, Brock is operational not only for KSARDA but also with the UASI team for the Kansas City Metro and the Kansas State Task Force. In October 2011, he passed the tryout for FEMA Missouri Task Force One(MOTF1) with a perfect score and is working toward his FSA/Type II for Spring 2012 and hopefully his CE/Type I soon thereafter. He has had several deployments in his career, including the 2011 Joplin tornado strike and the 2011 Atchison grain elevator explosion.
