Gary Swift & K9 Dixie

Gary joined KSARDA in the winter of 2007 with his labrador retriever Dixie. In March 2011, he began his service on the KSARDA Board as Southern Region Deputy Director. Gary married Heather, who is also a KSARDA member, in the spring of 2007 and they have three daughters and one granddaughter. Gary has worked for Hawker-Beechcraft since 2000 as a sheet metal assembler.

Gary is certified in first aid and CPR. He became a SARTECH II in the winter of 2007. Since then, Gary has been training his K9 Dixie in various SAR skills. They are a certified wilderness team and are now working on disaster.

Dixie joined Gary's family in the summer of 2007 in anticipation of joining KSARDA with Gary. Dixie has shown a high degree of intelligence as well as boundless energy and drive. She absolutely loves both working and playing. Dixie has a great heart and loves everyone even if she is a complete "Daddy's Dog." In June 2008, Dixie passed her NASAR K9 SARTECH II Area Search examination. As of December 2008, Gary and Dixie have passed their 20-acre day search and 40-acre night search KSARDA evaluations. Gary and Dixie passed their 160-acre air-scenting wilderness KSARDA certification evaluation in February 2009. Dixie passed the 1st level of her basic disaster evaluation in October 2010 and hopes to complete the final basic evaluation in the next several months. She passed her NASAR K9 SARTECH Area Search I evaluation in April 2009. They are continuing to work on her disaster skills and plan to achieve NASAR certification in disaster in 2011. hoz rule
